On 22 November 2016, John
Tanzer, a retired judge and current Director of an IT consultancy company, gave
a lecture at the Centre for Common Law on the digitisation of court in the UK.
Judge Tanzer’s talk focused
on the steps taken in relation to digitisation in the courts of England and
Wales and the ability of digitisation to improve court efficieny without sacrificing
quality.
Drawing on his own
experience of having worked to promote the application of IT solutions in court
trials, Judge Tanzer also discussed the establishment of an online platform for
criminal cases to facilitate the submission and acquisition of case materials
and evidence, in an effort to ensure that data is digital throughout the court
process.
