Shanghai Free Trade Zone: Crowd-funding Workshop

On Thursday, 22nd October 2015, GBCC organised a crowd-funding workshop for the Shanghai Free Trade Zone (SFTZ) project focusing on ‘Crowdfunding Market and Regulations in China and the UK’.

Professor Yang Dong, Vice Dean of Renmin University of China Law School, Mr Peter Baeck, Principal Reseracher, Public and Social Innovation, Policy and Research Unit, Nesta and Mr Conor Roche, Associate Director, BOP China were inivited to be keynote speakers.

Professor Yang gave an overview of crowd-funding regulations in China. Mr Baeck introduced the crowd-funding market and regulations in the UK based on his recent extensive research report. Mr Roche presented a case study on Reminova, which will set up an equity crowd-funding platform in the SFTZ in November 2015.

The workshop was well attended by regulators from namely the Bank of China, the China Banking Regulatory Commission and China Securities Regulatory Commission, academics researching alternative finance, think tanks, lawyers and crowd-funding associations.
